I spent my childhood in a house facing the ocean, which comes to my mind whenever I look back on things from that time. I became immersed in knitting at an early age in the haberdashery store my mother’s family ran, while my eyes opened to joy of painting at Saturday’s painting school. Later, I studied textiles at Kyoto City University of Arts, and came to appreciate the depth of weaving techniques. While in its graduate course, I spent my semesters at China’s Guizhou Minzu University, researching ethnic minorities’ textiles. Since then, I have visited several places in China and Southeast Asia to conduct textile-related researches. Now I produce and exhibit artworks, and give workshops as a fiber artist, while teaching classes on weaving, ethnic costumes, art education and other art-related subjects at several universities.
